Fall Coaches Clinic: Pregame Speech & Sports Nutrition
Youth Sports Leagues -
Fall 2025
Session 1 Description: The pregame speech is a long standing tradition in sport, but
particularly in basketball. Media coverage and cinematic depictions show how a
vigorous pregame speech can lead to on the court victory. However, as with other
coaching tools, the pregame speech is rarely taught. In this session coaches will learn
about the various components of pregame speech, reflect on their previous
experiences, learn from their peers, and gain confidence in using this tool more
effectively. Coaches that attend this session will leave with a better understanding of
what pregame speech is and how they can use it to meet the needs of their athletes
ahead of competition.
