Creative Connections with Mrs. Smith Art and Expression ClubKurtz Elementary Empower Houran after-school group led by the school social worker where students explore self-expression, creativity, and connection through hands-on art projects. Kaczor Clay Club: SummerKurtz Elementary Empower HourKaczor Clay Club Empower Hour: Gingerbread HousesWe know that Kurtz families love the Gingerbread Houses Empower Hour, but December is so busy so we are offering Christmas in July! In this consolidated hand-building clay workshop, students will enjoy creating Gingerbread Houses. Beginning with flat clay slabs, students will learn how to shape and attach the slabs into three dimensional forms. They will create texture & embellish their structures to simulate gingerbread, candy & other details found on traditional gingerbread houses. Students will also develop an understanding of clay properties, processes & vocabulary. Kaczor Clay Club Empower Hour: Forrest DwellingsWe were unable to offer this Clay Club during the school year, so we are offering it this summer! In this consolidated hand-building clay project, students will create dwellings for mythological creatures or amphibians, choosing to create a home for a fairy or a toad! Beginning with flat clay slabs, students will learn how to join two dimensional clay slabs into three dimensional forms. They will create texture and embellish their structures to simulate trees, leaves, knot holes and burrows reminiscent of natural habitats found in woodlands. Students will also develop an understanding of clay, clay properties and investigate various glazes and application tools and methodsNEW Kaczor Clay Club Empower Hour: LighthousesIn this consolidated hand-building clay project, students will create lighthouses! Beginning with flat clay slabs, students will learn how to join two dimensional clay slabs into three dimensional forms. They will create texture and embellish their structures to simulate details found on and around lighthouses. Students will also develop an understanding of clay, clay properties and investigate various glazes and application tools and methods. Drop off: Please drop your student off at the front car rider circle. We will gather before entering the main entrance together. If you are running behind and the front entrance is locked, please remain with your child and we will check back frequently. Pickup: After the session is over, I will walk your child out to the front circle at 12:00 to your waiting vehicle. If you are running behind, please email if possible to let me know and I will remain with your child until you arrive.Summer 2026
