Johnson: Hands-On Science Hour!Johnson Elem Empower HourWorld of Wonder (Grades K-2): This will be an intro course covering a variety of topics using games, projects, and coloring: A basic science course introducing students to a variety of topics through games, projects, and art. We will spend 2 weeks on the senses, one of touch, taste, and smell and one on sight (&light) and hearing (&sound). 1 week we’ll explore Weather and the water cycle, 1 week plants and trees, 1 week water science (sink, float, solutions) and 1 week of forces and motion Kitchen Science (Grades 3-5): weeks of exploring science through food – Using everyday kitchen staples, students will measure, make mixtures, solutions & super-saturated solutions, observe the effects of hot and cold, and explore the chemical reactions of leavening agents. We will investigate dairy by making magic milk, butter, cottage cheese and ice cream, and use emulsifiers to examine the interaction of oil and water. Students will use starches to make a fun “gak” and to thicken rice pudding. ***Students must register ONE WEEK before calss starts so I can e-mail parents a food allergy questionnaire to complete before Day 1***Winter/Spring 2025

PopularKaczor Clay Club Empower Hour:Kurtz Elementary Empower HourFOREST DWELLINGS (4/7-5/12) AM and PM : In this hand-building clay project, students will create dwellings for mythological creatures or amphibians, choosing to create a home for a fairy or a toad! Beginning with flat clay slabs, students will learn how to join two dimensional clay slabs into three dimensional forms. They will create texture and embellish their structures to simulate trees, leaves, knot holes and burrows reminiscent of natural habitats found in woodlands. Students will also develop an understanding of clay, clay properties and investigate various glazes and application tools and methods. SHOOTING STARS (5/16, 5/19, 5/21) AM and PM: In this 3 day hand-building clay workshop, students will develop an understanding of clay properties, processes & vocabulary as they create a Shooting Star with clay and multimedia materials. Beginning with flat clay slabs, students will cut a star shape, then add faces with surface texture and detail. The completed clay project will become a “shooting” star with added multimedia materials!Winter/Spring 2025

Students will be trained with proven, age-appropriate techniques that are necessary for kids to protect themselves from attackers. This program is set in a fun yet structured, environment which will give your child a positive outlook on learning a martial art. Participants will achieve great self confidence and leadership through the physical techniques, mental strategies, drills and exercises they are lead through.
